We're looking for volunteers to join our friendly sorting team of 2–3 people in this fun and flexible micro-volunteering role.
Here at Gizzy Kai Rescue, we are passionate about the possibilities food rescue delivers for both our community and our environment. We rescue food that would otherwise be destined for landfill or animal feed, reducing food waste and redirecting the healthy edible food to those in need throughout the community. Join a team of 2-3 team members and get involved in this this micro volunteering role.
As part of the sorting team your task will be to sort through the rescued kai, checking best before, expire dates and freshness then pack into boxes to allocate it to recipient groups. Record a few details about what you have sorted. As a new volunteer you will receive a full induction and then work alongside an experienced volunteer until you eel confident. We have easy to follow checklists and other resources available to guide you as well.
This is perfect after an early walk, before heading to sport, or the farmers market. A quick and rewarding role with our well organised charity offers high impact for our community and the environment by preventing food waste.
So come along, join the crew of over 35 Gizzy Kai Rescue volunteers helping to meet our mission. We proudly have volunteers ranging from 15 - 85 years, representing diverse backgrounds, skills, ethnicities and beliefs. We hold quarterly volunteer gatherings for those who wish to connect; e.g. morning tea, croquet, yoga, mid-winter lunch and more!
Time commitment required is up to 1 hour on a Saturday morning. You can choose a weekly, fortnightly or once per monthly commitment.
