Hospice Tairāwhiti provides community based hospice care for the people of Tairāwhiti, from Mōrere to Pōtaka. Hospice or palliative care is specialised care for people with life limiting conditions. Our focus is on improving quality of life for the person and providing support for the whānau.

We are looking for compassionate, empathetic volunteers to assist with delivering furniture and equipment to patients’ homes. This role involves not only transportation but also assembling or disassembling items as needed.

What's involved?

  • Delivering, and collecting, furniture and equipment to patients' homes across Tairawhiti
  • Lifting and moving items into homes - a good level of fitness is required!
  • Using a delivery van with a lift (lifting into homes still required).
  • Assembling or disassembling equipment as needed
  • Responding at short notice - deliveries and collections can often be unpredictable
  • Navigating various locations - some homes may have limited accessibility
  • Managing environmental stressors - volunteers may encounter grieving whānau

Deliveries take place during Hospice hours; support is available if volunteers are faced with emotional challenges.

Full orientation, training and support is provided.

Requirements:
  • Drivers must have a full, clean licence (not required for general delivery support)
  • Good communication skills and an empathetic approach
  • Reliability and flexibility
  • Problem-solving skills (assess challenges and find solutions)
  • Basic practical/handyman skills (helpful for assembling/disassembling furniture)
  • Emotionally resilient (training is available)

A Police background check is required for this role.
