The Sunshine Service provides transport within the city boundary for the elderly and people with disabilities to medical appointments and social/recreational activities.

We need drivers to transport our passengers around Gisborne in our Sunshine Service vehicles and assist passengers in and out of our vehicles. We welcome our volunteers to have a friendly chat and a warm presence as they welcome and assist our passengers.

Depending on the vehicle, you will usually be accompanied by an Assistant - training starts in the Assistant role to learn our procedures before you sit behind the wheel.

Our volunteers find their work very rewarding and enjoy getting to do a bit of travel around town. We have a welcoming friendly group of volunteers and we're introducing social events for our volunteers to participate in.

Requirements:
  • Trustworthy and reliable individuals
  • A great communicator
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • A reasonable level of fitness is required
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality
  • A full drivers license (Car)

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Our drivers can choose to work a half day, or full day shift from 7:30am until late afternoon weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

You can choose to be rostered on a regular day a week/fortnight or just make yourself available to be called on.
