At the East Coast Museum of Technology (ECMoT), we’re more than a museum - we’re a journey through time. Nestled in Makaraka, ECMoT is a not-for-profit treasure trove of Tairāwhiti and New Zealand history. With its quirky charm and incredible collection of treasures, ECMoT offers visitors a unique, nostalgic experience that connects past generations with the present.
We need warm, welcoming people like you to help share our stories as Front of House Volunteers!
As the friendly face greeting visitors, you’ll:
- Open the museum and welcome guests with a smile (involves cash-handling).
- Share fascinating insights about the museum’s collection.
- Help make every visit unforgettable for locals and visitors alike.

Your Commitment:
Pick from one of four shifts each weekend:
- Saturday: 9:45am–1pm or 1pm–4:15pm
- Sunday: 9:45am–1pm or 1pm–4:15pm
You’ll receive full training and ongoing support from our President and committee members.
Requirements:
- A friendly, approachable personality and a genuine enthusiasm for history and storytelling.
- Comfortable interacting with visitors of all ages and from diverse backgrounds.
- Reliable and committed, as you’ll be a key part of ensuring the museum opens and operates smoothly.
- Basic organisational skills to handle opening/closing procedures and light administrative tasks.
- Willingness to learn about the museum’s collection and share its stories with visitors.
- Ability to work independently during quieter times while staying engaged.
A Police background check is required for this role.

There is an option to join on a weekly or a fortnightly roster.
