Cruise Ship Ambassador

As an ambassador you will be a person who knows our city and surrounds and happy to pass that knowledge on. You could be sharing any of the following with our cruise ship visitors.

  • providing directions
  • sharing local knowledge
  • guiding them to basic needs of amenities, ATM's, chemists, restaurants
  • suggesting self-directed easy walks
  • advising places of interest to visit within the city
  • showing a personal interest by chatting about where they are from and what they have done

You will be provided with initial training, basic resources, appropriate identification and be part of a team of at least two.

Requirements:
  • commitment to the day/time you have booked to volunteer
  • able to stand for 2-3 hours
  • good general knowledge of the city centre and what it offers
  • genuine interest in promoting Gisborne, surrounds and our people
  • friendly and approachable manner with good communication skills
Time commitment:

Cruise ships will be here between December 2026 and February 2027. Days, times and locations will be made known when formalising the roster.
Each shift is between 2 and 3 hours and you are welcome to commit to more than one shift.
