Welcome Host/Hostess

GAPS - Gisborne Aviation Preservation Society, takes pride in the restoration and preservation of historical aircraft, their parts and other relevant historical items of interest. Over the years, the premises has been transformed into a welcoming museum. It is run solely by a dedicated team of volunteers who attend to both maintaining the premises and the museum pieces in addition to accepting new pieces in whatever state they arrive and lovingly bringing them back to their original condition. Your role is to let them carry on doing what they enjoy best while you offer a friendly greeting to the paying public who attend. This could be energetic school parties, overseas visitors or locals who return time and again to see what new items are on display. Your task is to meet and greet, collect the entrance fee and point visitors in the right direction.

Requirements:
  • an interest in aviation is a plus but not essential, if curious, there will be time available to view the displays and discover for yourself points of interest
  • confidence in handling small amounts of cash or using eftpos (training available on using the eftpos machine, if required)
  • friendly and welcoming communication with visitors - there will always be another volunteer handy who can help with visitor questions
  • good listening skills will also endear you to our team of volunteer enthusiasts who will love to chat with you in quiet moments
  • we appreciate suggestions on how we can better serve the public, so, as our front of house ambassador, talk to us about any way you feel we could improve a visitor's experience
Time commitment:

Tuesdays 9-12 weekly OR fortnightly with handover to another volunteer - let's chat and see what works for you
A 4-month commitment to this role is expected BUT of course we hope you would be happy to continue for longer as a valued member of our volunteer team
