What’s involved:

  • Assisting with set-up and welcoming members.
  • Offering sighted guide support, as needed.
  • Joining in on conversations and group activities.
  • Helping with light refreshments (like a cuppa and afternoon tea!).
  • Providing transport support may be helpful, but is not required.
Requirements:

Requirements:

  • A friendly, patient, and respectful manner.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to engage with group members and support inclusive conversations.
  • Physically able to assist with basic tasks (e.g. guiding, setting up chairs, helping serve refreshments).
  • Willingness to complete Blind Low Vision NZ induction, including sighted guiding training.
  • Full driver licence and insured vehicle if you're able to assist with transport.

You don’t need any special experience—just a warm attitude and a willingness to support others in a relaxed, social setting.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Weekday afternoon, approximately 2:00pm – 4:30pm (fortnightly/monthly).
  • Located at the Blind Low Vision NZ office.
  • Flexible, with the option to help regularly or on a relief basis.
