Volunteer Interviewer

The Gisborne Volunteer Centre partners with awesome non-for-profits that are making a real difference in our community; we are committed to promoting volunteering and assisting the people of Tairāwhiti to find great volunteer opportunities. We do this by matching volunteers with the organisations where they will have the greatest impact, enjoyment and sense of contribution.

The Volunteer Interviewer plays a key role in welcoming and assessing potential volunteers, ensuring they find suitable opportunities that align with their skills and interests. This will initially be based at our office in Treble Court, with scope to move around the community at local areas and events to attract more volunteers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting interviews with prospective volunteers, following set procedures
  • Assessing individual interests and skills while helping them explore suitable roles, including opportunities they may not have considered (thinking outside of the box is important!)
  • Providing clear information, guidance, and practical support to help make informed decisions
  • Keeping accurate records of interviews and report back to the GVC team as needed
  • Engaging with potential volunteers at events and community locations
Requirements:
  • Enthusiastic about volunteering and its impact on the community
  • Personable and able to connect with a diverse range of people
  • Strong communication and listening skills, with the ability to clearly explain volunteer opportunities
  • Open-minded and able to think creatively about matching volunteers with roles
  • Comfortable working in different settings, including community locations and events
  • Maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

We’ll provide training and ongoing support to ensure you feel confident in the role. During the training period, you’ll be paired with a current staff member to observe interviews and learn the process.

After training, you can choose a schedule that works for you! While Thursdays are ideal, we’re flexible - whether it’s two hours a week, half a day every fortnight, or another arrangement, we’re happy to collaborate and find a plan that suits your availability.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
