Join us as a Marshall or aid station helper at this year's Gizzy Laser Half Marathon event and ensure the safety and enjoyment of all of our participants, while enjoying the event buzz.

2025 is our 4th year of running this hugely successful marathon and attracts runners and walkers who are keen to enter the 5k, 10k or 21k distances and maybe even do it in their personal best time. Start and finish is at Matawhero Winery, then on to the stop bank track along the Waipaoa River. As a volunteer you would be assigned to a spot along this route for the duration of the event to:

  • help direct participants
  • advise headquarters of any issues out on the course
  • distribute water and snacks to participants
  • provide enthusiastic support and encouragement
Requirements:

Reasonable fitness to walk to your post
Enthusiastic supporter - able to shout out those words of encouragement with a smile !
Be engaged by keeping an eye on the runners and walkers to spot anyone in difficulty
Able to stand for longish periods of time
Appropriate footwear and clothing - slip slop slap or rain jacket depending on the day's weather

Time commitment:

Be available for briefing at Neighbourhood Pizzeria, 5:30 pm Friday 7 November
Event Day Saturday 8 November. Race start time: 8:00 am
Prize giving is at 12 pm and you are welcome to stay on
