Become one of our valued volunteer team members at Lytton High School. Your time spent with just one student helps build their confidence, nurtures their interest in reading, increases their vocabulary and demonstrates the power of words. You will gain satisfaction from knowing that you have been instrumental in paving a smoother path for your student's ongoing education and future. It's also a great opportunity for you to get out and exercise your own brain during winter.

Our literacy programme come complete with books, worksheets and games that is easy for you to deliver. The work is set, you just do the one to one learning support. We try to match the students to you and your strengths and focus on success and fun. So be prepared to play some games!

In term three we all come together and have lunch to celebrate the year's success.

Requirements:
  • Genuine interest in teenagers and seeing them develop in positive ways
  • A personal enjoyment of reading and understanding the benefits
  • Sense of humour
  • Patience

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • The programme is offered during terms 2 and 3 with two weeks holiday in between, so from April to September each year. You can choose to see one student or stay for a bit longer and see three students. All lessons are one to one and each lesson is 40 minutes. Most lessons are from 11am to 1pm.
  • Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays in terms 2 and 3 each year.
  • We are flexible, so if you are going away we can work around this.
