You will likely co-companion with another trained companion, and you will be well supported by the local Growing Through Grief coordinator/trainer.

The ideal person for this role is empathetic, enjoys working with young people, is mature, reliable and responsible. You must have great communication skills, including listening, have a good standard of conversational English and have your own resilience and awareness of self-care.
Becoming a companion involves completing an application form, providing a current CV, meeting the coordinator, police vetting, providing referres, attending trainings, reading relevant policies and procedures and participating in an accreditation process.
Training is delivered over two consecutive days by an authorised trainer. There may be a wait before the training is held, depending on when you apply.
Once trained up, the programme is delivered over 8 weeks for 1.5 hours per week with additional pre-session work.
