Retail Safety with Community Constables

29 November 2024

Op Shop Manager and Constable

This week we walked the beat with Community Contstables visiting four of our cherished local op-shops. The aim of the session was to look at retail safety within the individual stores but participants gained so much more. Volunteers and staff had the floor to ask questions and share scenarios to make sure they're doing the best for themself, their store and the customers.

From the discussions it was clear that 99.9% of customers are fantastic with a small minority causing grief and the stores are so appreciative and humbled by the continued community support.

If you missed the session the key takeouts were:

  • Your safety is number one
  • Have a safe exit/retreat plan
  • Great customer service and talking with customers is an excellent preventitive to shop-lifting
  • Report incidents (after the event report to 105 - do it online, faster than calling it through or call 111 if you are threatened or the event is happening), this helps to paint the picture of what is actually happening in our CBD
  • Keep up to date with eachother on shop happenings

A special thanks to everyone involved!
