Early November the Trust Tairāwhiti team stepped out of the office to spend a morning volunteering with several local community groups.
The morning was a part of Trust’s Great Employer pilot programme. A survey of 150 staff across five large workplaces highlighted a common desire among employees to feel more connected to the region. Volunteering as a team was identified as a meaningful way to achieve this while fostering a sense of belonging and improving workplace culture.
Before the big day, the team were presented with a variety of volunteer opportunities all organised by the Gisborne Volunteer Centre that met their date and time requirements.
Trust Tairāwhiti staff lent their hands to a variety of projects, including grounds work at the East Coast Museum of Technology, assembling pēpi packs for The Nest Collective, clearing blackberry on Tītīrangi with the Women’s Native Tree Trust, and getting the Christmas trees ready for sale at Habitat for Humanity's ReStore.
The day was a success, with team members noting how rewarding it was to contribute to local causes while also learning about the vital work of community organisations.
If you're interested in team or business volunteering contact the Volunteer Centre and we can tailor a package to suit you, whether it be a one-off staff Christmas activity, or an ongoing quarterly or annual arrangement. We listen to your goals and outcomes for the session and match with volunteer opportunities and community organisations that suit.
