Mission statement : to reduce the incidence of Stroke and provide the greatest benefits for the Stroke affected community to improve their quality of life. We're here to support all Stroke survivors, their families, whānau, friends and carers throughout their Stroke journey. Gisborne Stroke Support provides information, advice, education and advocacy services throughout the Tairawhiti Region. Availability: Monday to Friday 9:00 am - 2:30pm If unavailable - please leave a message as these are cleared daily. Communication Group: We aim to improve functional communication in simulated situations such as shopping, reading labels and starting conversations. In addition we focus on improving cognitive function by completing numeracy and literacy tasks challenging the brain with brain teasers, quizzes, games, puzzles and interactive conversation. Exercise Programme: Two fitness instructors are contracted to deliver a comprehensive holistic exercise program each week on a Thursday 10am-12:00pm. The instructors work on a bi-weekly basis to ensure continuity and reduce the risk of monotony. The exercise class also provides a social element and is a great way to get people into their first social event. Free Support Group offers: Services include: - information service for people who have had a stroke - Field Officer who makes hospital and home visits - Advocacy for stroke survivors with Work and Income, equipment requirements, etc. - newsletter - Stroke Club luncheon once a month - exercises classes once a week at St Andrews Hall - Young stroke group meets monthly
