To support a group of approx 15 Maori people who are blind or have low vision to get together at the local office for a fun social monthly event. Arrange entertainment approximately 6 times per year, welcome members as they arrive and support them to engage with others. This role is supported by other volunteers each time and full training and support will be provided.
Full Blind Low Vision Training will be offered, including sighted guiding.
Additional support/guidance will be provided to settle into this role - the previous facilitator is really keen to see this group continue and is happy to support the new volunteer.

Requirements:

An interest in people and the ability to listen and communicate effectively.
Able to relate to a diverse range of people.
Leadership qualities
Good organisational skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Willingness to gain a sound knowledge of sight loss issues

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Several hours per month. Day to be confirmed.
